SaNsA is based on a concept of many pieces of different cloth that are stitched together to form a whole. It derives from the Asante word nsansaa and Ewe sasa denoting diversity and unity. The workshop reflects its definition in encouraging a diversity of approaches to art: from street painting to traditional indigenous practices.
The first SaNsa workshop took place in 2004 and involved eight local artists working alongside artists from Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria, USA, Switzerland and the UK. Further workshops took place in 2007.
Since 2006 SaNsa has been issuing a Newsletter as a means of creating an awareness of local debates surrounding the visual artists and to alert artists of various opportunities and events in Ghana and the region.
