Three Islands [ Workshop ]
The Three Island workshops creates a space for dialogue and exchange in the remote islands of Hoy, North Uist and Tanera Mor. The first workshop took place on the island of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides in September 2003. Known as Comhla, the Workshop was was a joint venture between local artists, the Taigh Chearsabhagh Trust and the Triangle Arts Trust. The second of the Three Island workshop took place in 2007 on Tanera Mor and the third in Spring of 2008 on the island of Hoy, organised in partnership with The Pier Arts Centre in Stromness. North Uist hosted another Triangle workshop in late summer of 2008.
All workshops take place in relatively small communities and are successful in involving local people and raising greater interest in international practice through the participation of several artists from countries around the world including Cuba, Colombia, South Africa, China and Mauritius. The natural beauty of the landscape as well as the synergy created by the group are often the main influences for works created during the two weeks.
